16.1 Hands: 5 Year Old: Friesian/Percheron X: Gelding
“Schmidt” is a 5 year old, Percheron/Friesian cross, standing right around 16.1hh. Talk about tall dark and handsome. This boy is jet black and put together extremely well. He’s the perfect in between of sturdy and athletic. He has clean legs and amazing confirmation. He’s as pretty to look at as he is nice to be around. Schmidt has tons of potential to go any direction with the right guidance. We know this boy will do great things with the right person.
In the ring, Schmidt is straightforward and has a no funny business attitude. He enjoys having a job and is extremely willing to learn. He has a solid wtc both directions and very comfortable gaits. He has a big ground covering stride and pretty movement. Schmidt always strives to please and has an amazing work ethic. He’s learning to go on the bit, be adjustable, and move off leg pressure. He just keeps getting better every ride. He would still be considered green but is easy enough for a competent amateur working with a trainer to bring along. He has no buck rear or kick. He rarely spooks and if he does it’s extremely mild and he will politely step away. He has tons of potential for dressage and he is extremely flashy.
On the trail, Schmidt has lots of miles and will happily go in the front or back of the pack. He’ll go on the buckle and be a relaxing ride or he can pick up and go for a hunter pace. He’s been on lots of hunter paces and paper chases with us and is always tons of fun. This brave boy is the first one into the water, wether it be crossing the stream, or going for a swim in the lake. He loves to splash and have a good time with his person. He’s fun to pop over logs and coops on the trail and is always honest to the jump. He’s good in a group with greener horses riding up close to him and never gets upset. With more experience he would making a fantastic fox hunter. We can’t say enough good things about this special horse.
In the barn, Schmidt has no bad stall habits and is the same horse if you let him sit for a couple days or ride him every day. He picks up all four feet and is good for the farrier. He stands to groom and saddle up. He was a challenge to bridle at first but has come a long way and has been doing substantially better with it. Sometimes he needs a reminder about personal space if he gets pushy, however most of the time he’s respectful and sweet. He can go out in a mixed heard and generally will hang out alone. He never causes problems in the pasture and gets along with everyone. We've all fallen in love with Schmidt and want the best possible home for him.
Schmidt is UTD on shots, farrier, coggins, and dentist.
