Rita’s Jewel or as we call her, Blueberry, is a coming 4 year old Dutch Harness mare standing 15.3 hands high. We expect her to finish out at least 16.1 and of course continue to fill out as well. Safe, quiet, and easygoing are the best ways to describe this care free lady. You would never guess her age or the fact that she is a mare from the way she behaves! Blueberry is absolutely husband proof, kid safe, guest approved, and loved by everyone in the barn. Blueberry is the perfect mix of safety and style; she can go from packing your guests on the trail to the dressage arena any day of the week!
In the ring, Blueberry is going as well as you could ask for of a horse her age. She is a fast learner and very simple to ride and train on. She will walk, trot and canter both directions and will do so on the buckle or in a frame. She is being started working on connection and bending properly. We expect her to pick up on leg yields and leg pressure quickly as she has proven to be quite smart and easygoing in her training. We have started to pop Blueberry over some small fences and is taking to them very well. She is very brave and balanced! Blueberry has also been ridden by lesson students, guests, small children, and handles bouncy, wobbly riders with ease.
Off property, Blueberry is a trail master. She loves exploring and seeing new things! Blueberry is happy leading, following, or riding in the middle of the pack. She crosses bridges, water, roads, and more. We trust her with kids, guests, and husbands on the trails! Hunter paces and paper chases are also a blast on this mare. She is happy taking it slow and steady, or keeping up with the group for a faster paced ride. Blueberry has also been to some schooling and fun shows where she did walk trot classes with a 12 year old, costume classes carrying a friends non-horsey husband, and other fun classes such as the egg and spoon, and dollar bareback. We are so impressed with her quiet nature and laid back attitude while out in busy, new environments!
Under harness, Blueberry is broke the best! She is very safe and simple to hitch and drive. She has been driven through town, out to the drive thru, on busy roads, through tunnels, and around the farm. There is no where you cannot go with this mare!
In the barn, Blueberry is extremely well behaved. She enjoys attention from the children, being braided, brushed, and bathed. She is used to dogs, tractors, and all sorts of barnyard excitement and never bats an eye. She stands like a statue on the crossties and doesn’t have a “mare-ish” bone in her body. Blueberry lives out most of the time in a mixed herd of geldings and other mares but is just as happy and quiet when living in a stall.
Blueberry really is a special youngster. She has one of the best brains around, and with her gentle nature and quiet disposition she will be a great addition to any program! Whether you are looking for your next dressage or eventing parter, a future easygoing fox hunter, or just a reliable trail horse, Blueberry will be happy to do it all! She is sound with no vices.
