Meet “Sir Bandero”—better known around the barn as ✨Ike✨.
We’ve had this guy in our program for quite some time now— solely because we’ve enjoyed having him around so much! 😍 Ike is a 7-year-old, registered FHHI gelding, standing right around 16.1 hands. We’ve had so much fun with this boy, and he truly does it all!
He was originally started Western, has done some light work under harness, has dabbled in dressage, and has logged countless miles on the trail. He even lays down on command! What more could you ask for? This guy is drop dead gorgeous, with the most striking hazel eyes! He absolutely loves people, and we know he would thrive having a person of his own. Ike is a forward-thinking, incredibly talented young horse, and we’re hoping to find him the perfect match. ❤️
On the trail, Ike is truly point-and-go. He has a no-nonsense attitude and has been an incredible example of bravery for all of our younger horses that have followed him! While he’s a natural-born leader, he’s just as happy to follow or ride anywhere in the group.He’s sensible in every situation. Whether you’re taking a dip in the river, riding to the gas station with tractor-trailers passing by, or galloping through open fields, Ike is always game and will take great care of his rider. He’s practically unflappable and incredibly sure-footed over rough terrain.
He’ll cross bridges, go through tunnels, and tackle anything you point him at without hesitation. Flags, tarps, hikers, dogs, bikes, heavy equipment, and traffic—he’s seen it all. He’s a fantastic partner for hunter paces and paper chases, and we could easily see him making an exceptional fox hunter. He has a nice pep in his step and is always ready for the next adventure.
In the ring, Ike is an incredibly fun and responsive ride. Thanks to his Western background, he has a beautiful neck rein, happily rides on a loose rein, side-passes, spins, and comes with an excellent stop.
Recently, we’ve been focusing on dressage, and wow… this horse is talented! 😍 He is incredibly in tune with his rider. While he takes a little time to figure out (the best ones always do 😉), he quickly lets you know how he likes to be ridden—in the best way possible. He appreciates a rider with soft hands, supportive contact, and subtle aids. Once you find that connection, he will absolutely work his heart out for you. He’s naturally forward-thinking while remaining adjustable, soft, and balanced.
He has lovely impulsion, leg yields with ease, extends and collects beautifully, moves off both the forehand and haunches, and has been offering effortless flying changes. His uphill canter is a highlight, and his walk-to-canter transitions in both directions are smooth and balanced. Ike is hands-down the smartest horse in our barn. Because of his intelligence and sensitivity, he’ll do best with a talented, intuitive rider. He is not naughty, spooky, or difficult in any way—he simply isn’t suited for a complete beginner or an unbalanced rider due to his forward nature and responsiveness.
We think he’d be an excellent match for a talented amateur, a junior working with a trainer, or someone looking for a quality prospect to move up the levels. We truly believe dressage is his future. He genuinely enjoys technical work and thrives on having a job to do.
Around the barn, Ike is an absolute doll. ❤️ He greets you with a neigh every single time he sees you—it’s the cutest thing! He’ll come galloping in from the pasture when you call his name and is always game for whatever you have planned. He stands like a gentleman for a full body clip, is polite for the vet, farrier, and dentist, and loves a good spa day. He’ll happily stand in the cross ties soaking up attention, has wonderful ground manners, and is respectful of your space. He has an old scar on his back leg that does not affect him in any way. Ike has been trailered all over and is always a saint both on the trailer and off the property. He truly is an incredible horse to own, and we haven’t been in any hurry to see him go. We’re going to miss his fun-loving personality immensely. ❤️
