“Charlie” - SOLD
16.2 hands : coming 5 year old : Dutch Harness : Gelding
Lincoln BCE (Graaf Kelly x Super Kemma H) or “Charlie” is a 4 and a half year old, extremely well bred Dutch Harness gelding standing 16.2 hands high. If there was one we could keep forever, it would be him. It has proven next to impossible to get a spook out of this guy, as he has not batted an eye at any of the silly things we have thrown his way. This incredibly talented youngster has proven to be not only one of the nicest moving, bravest jumping, good brained, enjoyable horses to ride, but he also has an absolutely hilarious personality that will have even the Grinch’s heart growing three times it’s size.
In the ring, Charlie is forward thinking with the best work ethic. He enjoys having a job and picks up on what is being taught faster than any other horse in the barn. He has shown us that he is capable of flying changes, the most gorgeous extended trot, and that he will be capable of all the upper level dressage moves. Charlie knows how to work off the leg and is smoothly completing leg yields and learning half passes. Charlie goes in a frame beautifully at all three gaits, and has a stunning uphill canter that, with age, will be hard to beat in the dressage arena. Charlie has been ridden by more advanced lesson students, and can take a joke. However with his athleticism and work ethic, he would be best suited with a rider who has the same winning ambitions as him!
Over fences, Charlie is at the top of our top 5 all time bravest horses. This horse will literally jump fire for his person. From the get go he has been nothing but honest and confident over any fence, in or out of the ring, that he has seen. Charlie absolutely has scope for the big stuff and has proven that in the jump chute. At his age, we have not asked him to jump anything big under saddle as we know what he will be capable of in the future. He has no problem popping over coupes in hunt country, some training level XC fences, ditches, walls, and everything in between. Charlie is a blast to take cross country schooling, and he acted like he’s seen those scary solid fences every day of his life. He even jumped down into the water and over ditches like they were an 18” cross rail.
Off property, Charlie is calm and happy to go wherever he is pointed. He will gladly hack out on a loose rein, or pick up the pace and take you on a fun hunter pace. We have trail ridden Charlie extensively, and he greatly enjoys the trails, especially playing in the water! Charlie has also been on a number of hunter paces, paper chases, and has been fox hunting. He hunted in first and second field like he was an old pro, and was constantly getting compliments! We also have taken Charlie on weekend camping trips, and you guessed it, he was perfect as could be.
In the barn, Charlie is everyone’s favorite. When we say this horse is a total ham, we mean it! He will have you laughing when he tries to scratch your back, or nuzzles you like a dog when he wants you to give him more attention. Charlie thinks he’s a puppy dog and will happily follow you around the farm all day long. He comes running to the gate when he sees you coming to the pasture, and is the easiest horse to catch as he will put himself back into his stall all by himself if you let him. Charlie requires no halter or tying to be groomed, bathed, and tacked. He’s just happy to be getting attention and stands like a statue. However if you choose to tie him, he will oblige and stand like a gentleman all day long. Charlie enjoys living outside, but will live in just the same. He is turned out with mares and geldings and gets along well with everyone.
Under harness, Charlie drives great. He is safe in traffic, on the farm, and around town. He has a good work ethic and is simple to drive.
Charlie is truly a once in a lifetime horse. We are very proud to be able to offer such a quality young Dutch Harness. He is a great representation of the breed and just how talented and good minded they can be. We would love nothing more than to see Charlie excel in the upper levels of dressage or eventing with his next person. Located in Gap, Pennsylvania. Priced at $35,000.
