Meet ✨Scout✨—a real-life unicorn! This gelding is truly something special. He’s a 6-year-old Spotted Draft/QHx standing right around 15.3hh. He’s built sturdy enough to carry a variety of riders while still being light enough to easily do all the athletic things! He’s a stunning tri-color paint, and he has all the right markings to catch the eye. While his build and good looks alone make him stand out, it’s his brain and personality that make him truly special.
Scout is the kind of horse that will happily pack the kids one day and then go to an event or jump a cross-country course the next! He’s safe beyond his years—one we would trust putting anyone on, knowing he’ll take care of them every time. He’s the same horse every day, whether he’s ridden daily or pulled out once a month.
In the ring, Scout is always an enjoyable ride. He’s happy to go as slow as a snail and do pony rides, or pick up and go! He has lovely self-carriage at the trot and canter, always staying steady without being speedy. He’s mastered the art of ignoring whatever shenanigans the kids or beginners might be doing up there and happily carries them around like an old schoolmaster. If the littles get unbalanced, Scout is so saintly that his go-to is to stop! He’s truly worth his weight in gold when it comes to packing kids and beginners. He’s already taught multiple kids their first solo off-lead ride, how to trot, and how to canter!
He’ll wait all day for the kids to get on and off him, and you can mount him from anywhere. His trot and canter are smooth and comfortable to ride, and he never takes a wrong step. He’s also a blast to ride for someone more experienced and has been cruising little jump courses and combinations. He’s such an easy horse to have and so intelligent. He picked up jumping immediately, like he’s done it his whole life. He’s steady, well-balanced, never gets quick or upset, and takes any spot you give him while always delivering his rider safely to the other side—not to mention his honesty and adorable form! We could definitely see him in the show ring bringing home ribbons in no time.
On the trail, Scout keeps that same steady personality, happily packing along anyone you throw on his back! He’s a point-and-go ride that will lead or follow. He LOVES to swim and splash and will put his whole head under the water! He’s packed beginner adults and kids on many miles of trails and genuinely enjoys getting out. He acts the same both on and off the property and trailers like a champ! He’s ridden into town, waited at red lights, and had semi-trucks pass right by him. He’s been desensitized to tarps, smoke, flags, dogs, bikers, hikers, deer, wildlife, and everything else you find on a busy trail. He’s so unbothered that he even took a roll right on top of the tarp! 🤣 (See it in the video.) Scout is always curious, loves to play with the ball, and has such a big personality that it’s impossible not to love him!
In the barn, Scout has excellent manners. He’s been tacked up, bathed, groomed, and led by kids. His one and only flaw is that he can get a little mouthy if he’s fed too many treats, but he more than makes up for it with his loving personality and hugs. He seriously puts his head down for the kids to pet and love on! 💙 He’s well-behaved for the dentist, farrier, and vet in every way. He’s so full of personality that he’ll constantly keep you laughing and smiling! He’s easy to catch in the field and gets along well with others.
He’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime, irreplaceable kind of horse—the type you find for your family and never let go of!
We’re super excited to offer this guy on the market! Scout encapsulates everything we try to find in our draft crosses. He’s incredibly safe, suitable for the whole family, and athletic enough to dabble in all disciplines. He’d be suitable for a lesson program, a family horse for the kids or Grandma, or an adult beginner or AA who just wants something to gain confidence on and love to death! He’s so special, and we’ve truly enjoyed our time with him. We know he’s destined for greatness!
